“Perfection is a tragedy. I fervently love humanity’s flaws.”  —Calayah

Calayah is always experimenting. She introduces emerging technologies into contemporary art, seeking exciting ways to reflect on some urgent social problems. Her works revolve around performance and moving image by virtual reality, motion capture, artificial intelligence, etc. It is noteworthy that, she has engaged in a cautious and innovative exploration of "Digital Performance Art" in 2024. In a realm where digital spaces continue and develop in an orderly manner according to modernist logic. Creating performance art that is happening, unpredictable, and pushes the body to its limits presents a significant challenge. This endeavor explores an thrilling yet largely uncharted field.

She tries to challenge social norms. Her works sincerely invite us to consider how gender, libido, and the body are shaped by various ideologies. Critically, from clinics implanting prosthetic phalluses for women, to cultural industries catering to virtual attachments; from AI churches dedicated to the worship of science, to the commercialization of life through body modifications - her practice explores synthetic, moldable, and imitable identities, as well as the generation and regeneration of these identities. Calayah enjoys creating a strong tension in her works, presenting an extremity of excess that conveys an undeniable provocative nature. It is like eating too much candy, leading to a feeling of nausea. Through this excessive aesthetic, she constructs a beautiful new world, which evolves into an undeniable violence. Looking more carefully, they are intent on seducing you: are you going to take a bite?
