Heather Gibson is a London based ceramic artist. She is currently undertaking an MA at the Royal College of Art and is a recipient of the Marit Rausing Scholarship for Ceramics & Glass (2024).

Heather Gibson’s ceramics explore the threshold between art and the everyday object. With an intimate focus on traditional hand building techniques and experimental glazing, her functional forms are juxtaposed by bold, sculptural and dynamic surfaces.

Drawing inspiration from East and West pottery traditions, abstract expressionism and the urban environment, Heather’s approach to making is both designed and spontaneous. Using a careful alchemy of her own slips and glazes, a unique visual material language is revealed. By exploring clay as a canvas for trace, memory and mark-making, Heather aims to capture time in the object, reminiscent of the interwoven layers of history. Through her method she invites risk into the work, encouraging the true nature of clay and its ability to give something back - something beyond our control.
