Beverley Harrison

I specialize in Contemporary Art and Curating. I am presently studying at the London’s RCA’s MA Curating Contemporary Art program, to hone my curatorial knowledge and practice.

My research includes transnational curation, the restaging of exhibitions from one site to another, and how to place the local within the global, in response to local artists and the art milieus’ cultural socio-political ethos. How do we engage the public, posit the past in the present, and convey personal and collective experience or histories? I have an interest in artworks that embody memory, performance, and diasporic liminal states, as well as participatory curatorial projects within communities and site-oriented public artworks.

Past art historical and curation studies included a Masters in Contemporary Art, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, as well as a Masters in Art History and Canadian Studies and a Masters in Library Science. While studying at Sotheby’s, I developed curatorial acumen and wrote curatorial proposals, catalogue essays, art reviews, news releases and didactics. As a law librarian, I curated, developed, and managed collections and research services, liaising with clients and stakeholders. My career aim is to promote art and artists, by engaging the public, collectors and art world professionals, in global art world venues and art markets.
