Whisper Between Us

Through a game that simulates separation centered on death, we encapsulate the emotional entanglement experienced by a couple throughout their lives in a symbolic manner, ultimately enhancing participants' and observers' appreciation of life and the importance of emotional connections and separations.Before starting the game, players will watch a trailer and review the game manual to understand the gameplay and conduct a self-assessment of moral risks.Next, upon confirming their participation, they fill out a form about their life plans, including their birth date, current age, expected year of death, unhealthy habits, and a list of personal achievements from the past five years. This is designed based on our research on our customer base.Guided by staff and signs, the couple enters a space we've designed. This private and comfortable space is arranged simply and clearly, with completely symmetrical and specially designed areas symbolizing their independent yet merged lives.Upon entering, players see hanging garments made of beaded squares and rows of square fabrics printed with life wishes. A row of beads symbolizes eight different life achievements every five years. Players use a red string to secure the wish-printed fabrics into the garments, filling out both the attire and their envisioned lifespan.We print traditional Chinese blessing patterns and life plan lists on square fabrics, derived from real interviews, while also allowing for DIY customization. Players are asked to tie their life plans onto the garment like wishes on a wishing tree, a beautiful prayer symbolizing that the fulfillment of these deeds constitutes our lives.However, the inevitable departure of someone is symbolized by cutting the threads that connect the beads, based on the predetermined year of death from the forms. The falling beads with unfulfilled wishes symbolize the regrets that couldn't be achieved in this envisioned life. We hope that after the game, players reflect on these unfulfilled regrets to deeply feel the value of life—considering whether they need a longer life, should change unhealthy habits, or cherish time more to achieve what they desire in the next five years.
