Water makes up 71% of the Earth’s surface. So far, humans have only accounted for approximately 240,000 marine species. However, it is estimated that there are still over 1,500,000 marine species in the water. As humans are responsible for the Anthropocene, we undoubtedly affect all the living organisms responsible for maintaining and improving our shared planet. However, the less seen and noticeable species that we significantly affect are those based in the water. As sound travels further than light, our water-based activities affect those that we do not see. Our activities on the water are (un)silently causing disorientation, starvation, forced migrations and the killings of countless innocent animals.
