PROJECT 233: WHAT, CAN YOU STILL CONCEAL?

This exploration has participants conceal their data in a box, revealing societal privacy and power complexities.

In our hyper-capitalist society, information has become a currency; everything is up for sale; especially information about ourselves. What are we really about, other than a collection of information?

Our project encourages participants to consider a piece of public information, whether it originates from themselves, others, or what they deem should be public. Participants are asked to write this information in fluorescent paint and then place it into a black box, effectively concealing it. The act of sealing and later revealing the information at our discretion illustrates how information can be shared, hidden, and manipulated by larger systems.

Inside the box, participants may spy on hidden pictures that illuminate our perspectives on justice, inequality, and misinformation. This setup aims to detach participants from their information, demonstrating how limited their control—and ours—really is over such data. In this context, justice and inequality are two sides of the same coin. Misinformation renders both irrelevant.
