Our team project targets the pressing issue of 'death by loneliness' among the older population, underscoring the urgent need to establish stable living environments and reconnect older individuals with society to prevent social isolation.
To combat loneliness and foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for older adults, we began by examining the root causes of loneliness and social isolation, including the global increase in the elderly population, prolonged periods of isolation, and the alarming rise in solitary deaths.
To tackle this challenge, our team developed MOIM, a communication kiosk system. 'MOIM,' meaning 'gathering' in Korean, serves as a comprehensive solution to facilitate elderly individuals' access to the public sphere. Through MOIM, older adults can connect with others, participate in various activities, such as exercise, gardening, cooking, and socialising in bookshops and coffee shops, thus engaging in meaningful community interactions.
These images depict our team project, showcasing explanations of the MOIM system, the guidebook, and an additional hub: a virtual phone booth that we recreated as a hub where elderly people can access resources.
Our approach with MOIM focuses on providing not only access to public activities but also fostering genuine connections and community engagement among the elderly. By addressing the multifaceted aspects of elderly isolation, we aim to create a more supportive and inclusive society for older adults.
