Eyevolution

Using the eye as a miniature carrier to explore the transcendence and evolution of bodily boundaries.
Being DigitalIdentityThe BodyTechnologies

Our project "Eyevolution" stems from Gilles Deleuze's theory of the body without organs, which fundamentally represents an uncoded body, a blank canvas upon which various cultural symbols inscribe their initial marks. We have chosen the eye as a miniature carrier to delve into the transcendence and evolution of bodily boundaries.

The first-person perspective video showcases the visual experiences of organisms throughout the evolutionary journey of the eye. It spans from ancient ocular organisms like Rhodophyta to compound-eyed creatures such as dragonflies, cyborgs, digitally embedded consciousness, and the mental body of perpetually living humans, encompassing 12 stages of visual experiences testing against the Red House.

Twelve dynamic posters generated by Midjourney, correspond to different stages of eye evolution, illustrating the morphologies of both organisms and eyes. Humanity achieves perpetual existence in virtual worlds, projecting individual consciousness, thoughts, or imagination without the need for traditional sensory channels or technical mediums. Yet, is the eye still the eye it once was?
