We are excited to harness the power of digital technology and social media to create a platform for young people struggling with body image anxiety. Our goal is to break away from the single standard that plagues social media and foster a greater sense of self-identity. According to a survey, 22% of UK adults admitted that images on social media trigger body image anxiety. We ask ourselves, "How might we help individuals in their 20s realize that their body image is unique, rather than being defined by the number of likes on their posts?"
One solution we propose is to encourage self-expression through painting. By expressing their understanding and feelings about their own image, individuals can alleviate body anxiety and improve self-acceptance. This process not only allows users to freely express their emotions but also serves as a means of emotional release and self-reflection. Ultimately, users will receive an AI-generated abstract color painting to save in their personal gallery pages. They can engage with this process multiple times, observing how their emotions evolve. Furthermore, they can share their creations with other participants worldwide, fostering a sense of solidarity in facing this common issue.
Abstract art, in contrast to concrete images of bodies, lacks any fixed aesthetic standards. Each viewer can interpret it differently, leading to varied feelings and evaluations. Moreover, it minimizes the emphasis on physical appearance often prevalent on social media, creating a more comfortable and inclusive social space. Through these initiatives, we aim to empower young individuals to embrace their unique body image and foster a more positive online environment.
