Just as people in a society deserve care, animals deserve care too. Disabled dogs are often overlooked or abandoned, and less likely to be adopted. With a small intervention they too can live a full life. Through this project, we want to shine a light on inclusivity, not just for dogs but everyone on the fringes of society and enable them to life their best life.
Driven by our team member's experience with her disabled dog and shocked by the exorbitant prices of dog wheelchairs in the market, we decided to create a low-cost, adjustable DIY wheelchair for disabled dogs. Through the use of readily available materials like scrap fabric, pre-perforated rods and discarded wheels, we prototyped a dog wheelchair for under £20.
Our initiative extends beyond mere creation; we've established an open-source website, which documents the wheelchair making process and provides a detailed assembly instructions. The website also acts as a platform for community collaboration to enhance and iterate upon our wheelchair design. Co-creating care aims to empower pet owners with economical solutions and foster inclusivity for all furry companions.
