Awkward Bits

Think again before you discard your scrapes. Just because they're awkward, it doesn't mean they don't fit.
Climate CrisisAwareness

Upon closer examination of the waste we accumulated, we discovered a recurring pattern: the majority of our discarded materials appeared in awkward and irregular shapes. These diverse fragments consisted of varied materials, including paper, plastic, metal, wooden offcuts, and wax. The inherent nature of their shapes rendered them unsuitable for incorporation into future projects, leading to their designation as unwanted or unusable.

Inspired by the peculiar shapes and wide-ranging materials comprising our discarded waste, our group collectively came to a realization: these irregular remnants encapsulate the essence of our sustainability journey. It was this revelation that sparked the birth of our project's title, "Awkward Bits." Embracing the inherent awkwardness of these discarded materials, we found ourselves driven towards creativity and innovation. Rather than viewing these remnants as mere waste, we saw them as blank canvases brimming with potential. From whimsical and playful transformations into objects of beauty to utilizing them as tools for engaging and meaningful activities, "Awkward Bits" became more than just a project titleā€”it recapitulated our values of turning challenges into opportunities and celebrating the inherent creativity found within constraints.

At the heart of our project lies a playful and innovative concept: utilizing the awkward bits of material waste as versatile tools for a diverse range of activities. From the initial stages of gathering and categorizing waste to the collaborative sculpting of imaginative creations, our project unfolds as a series of engaging and interactive experiences. Each activity, whether it's sorting through discarded materials or participating in a relay-style game to build a collective masterpiece, serves to transform these unwanted remnants into valuable components of a larger vision. Our ultimate goal is to repurpose every last bit of material waste in a manner that captivates and inspires. As the project progresses, these once-dismissed awkward bits evolve into integral pieces of a chessboard, inviting people to engage with them in playful and strategic ways. By harnessing the power of creativity and collaboration, our project not only breathes new life into discarded materials but also fosters a sense of connection and excitement among participants,
